Sonia has a son Rahul Gandhi and a daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Rahul was born on June 19, 1970. Rahul studied at St. Stephen's College in Delhi and later at Harvard University in the US. Like his father Rajiv, Rahul does not seem to have earned a formal degree. Rahul has stated publicly that it took him several years to get over the death of his father Rajiv. In the 2005 Parliamentary elections, Rahul Gandhi contested from the Amethi consituency in Uttar Pradesh and won. Rahul's sister Priyanka is married to a Delhi-based businessman Robert Vadra and has two children. Although not a member of Parliament, Priyanka has also been active in politics. She has often campaigned by her mother's side. Although, many had expected Priyanka to be a candidate in the 2005 elections, she did not. |
